  • Overview

    Our client provides a wide variety of electromechanical components for custom-designed applications; primarily to automotive tier one suppliers. The Company offers engineering and design assistance, supply chain management, and other value-added services to its customers and suppliers. The current range of products include laser-etched injection molded plastic components, custom-molded silicone rubber products, printed circuit boards, incandescent lamps, and electro-mechanical assemblies.

     

    The Director of Business Development will lead the effort to diversify our client's business both in North America and globally into new markets outside of the company’s well-established position as a supplier of decorative molded plastic and rubber parts or assemblies to automotive tier one suppliers. The DBD will be a pioneer tasked with leading the company into new markets that require precision engineered, molded plastic or rubber components for products such as appliances, medical apparatus, HVAC, commercial/consumer products, aviation, defense, etc. The DBD will also have an opportunity in the future to manage the division that s/he helps create.

     

    The position involves participating with the owners in setting short and long-range sales & marketing plans. The DBD is a vital member of the Project Review Committee and has responsibility for maintaining the Company’s “new business opportunity pipeline” … which is to be achieved by strengthening and broadening the channels through which new opportunities are generated:

    1. by field sales reps;
    2. by Project Engineers in collaboration with existing and new potential customers;
    3. through RFQs from customers and prospects;
    4. through technology innovations from manufacturing partners; and
    5. by driving organic growth through better commercialization of engineering, logistics and supply chain capabilities.

    The DBD is primarily responsible for developing and submitting quotations, leading negotiations and closing orders with support from management, field reps, and engineers. The DBD is also expected to motivate personnel at all levels to expand the Company’s vision and to seek diversification in new business frontiers. This includes the DBD assessing new/different manufacturing and partnership options on a worldwide level.

    Skills, Abilities, Experience and Education

    • 5+ years of technical sales or sales management experience in the automotive and/or relevant industrial markets
    • Bachelor's Degree required (major in engineering or marketing)
    • Proven ability to develop clear sales and marketing goals with reliable forecasting
    • Ability to provide co-workers and direct reports ongoing direction and constructive feedback
    • Ability to inspire others to accomplish stated objectives
    • Strategic thinking capabilities with respect to business development and course corrections when needed.
    • Ability to analyze and prioritize potential new projects
    • Experienced in understanding financial statements
    • Experience developing sales literature and presentations
    • Excellent analytical, creativity and problem solving skills
    • Willingness and ability to travel by air both domestically and internationally 25% of the time
    • Advanced oral, written communication, presentation, negotiation and strategic planning skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • The highest ethical standards including honesty, integrity and dedication.
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
